Objective

• Build friendly public spaces in Vietnam
• Promote the importance of playing for children

Challenge

Play is an essential part of learning and developing a child’s creativity, and public spaces help foster a sense of community. Cities in Vietnam lack free public playgrounds, and existing public spaces lack equipment for sports, meeting, resting and playing.

Social Enterprise

Founded in 2014, Think Playgrounds collaborates with residents and local authorities to build greener, friendly public spaces and playgrounds for children using equipment made from recycled materials including tires and wooden boxes.. To help fund these spaces, the organisation designs and builds playgrounds for private institutions such as international kindergartens, private schools and new urban spaces for real estate corporations in Hanoi. 

To date, it has built and developed over 150 spaces, in collaboration with different partners, communities and donors. 

Through AirAsia Foundation’s grant, Think Playgrounds will be able to:

• Invest in new machine and upgrade the current workshop
• Develop marketing materials to promote products and the organisation
• Build capacity for staff through fire protection and first aid training 

Organisation

Think Playgrounds is a social enterprise that works with urban residents to build playgrounds and community gardens, and renovate friendly and inclusive public spaces for people in Vietnam. They believe that a functional and qualitative public space is fundamental to achieving social equity to increase the quality of life of an urban citizen.
