Malaysia Flood Relief

Overview
In December 2021, Malaysia faced one of the most devastating floods in its history. As communities across multiple states were submerged, AirAsia Foundation mobilised swiftly to support immediate relief efforts and longer-term recovery for affected families and public infrastructure.
Impact At A Glance

- 68,000+ people displaced
- 8 states affected
- Declared a “once-in-a-century” disaster by officials
The Crisis
On 18 December 2021, a tropical depression made landfall in Peninsular Malaysia, triggering three consecutive days of torrential rainfall.
Rivers overflowed, urban drainage systems failed, and entire neighbourhoods were submerged with little warning.
The floods caused widespread destruction to homes, public facilities, and essential infrastructure, leaving tens of thousands of residents displaced and communities struggling to recover in the aftermath of an unprecedented natural disaster.
The Campaign
In response to urgent calls for aid, AirAsia Foundation, together with BigPay, launched a nationwide donation drive to support both immediate relief and long-term rebuilding efforts.
Funds raised were channelled towards restoring damaged infrastructure such as community halls, schools, clinics, bridges, and sanitation facilities, while also supporting disaster preparedness initiatives to strengthen resilience against future crises.
AirAsia Foundation also opened funding opportunities to registered non-profit organisations with proven experience in relief and rehabilitation work, prioritising projects that deliver tangible, community-level impact.
